She rears up and stamps her hooves
He recoils, the Earth quakes under his feet
Yet, his open hand is still reaching
towards her
He is not afraid
Somehow he knows she won't hurt him
He must have been the most patient man
And the bravest too
For he waited months crouching in the shadow
Watching her from afar
Smiling as her lean strength unfolds under the moonlight
She will never be tamed
He likes her wild
How he wishes to know the secrets
glistening in her liquid eyes
He longs to translate her thoughts
into kisses
How she feels, what she wants
What can he do to make her stay?
Fright cracks its whip
Panic breaks the spell as she turns around and runs away
He observes her dashing in circles neighing
Crying?
Dread beads on her luscious skin
Danger, danger, she has to flee
He endures her dance and quietly prays
Goddess, let her see the Truth so she can stay
And be mine
She stops, stares, breathless
This mare, you see, fought many battles
She doesn't know what love is anymore
Did she ever?
The sky opens and it pours
A wave from above
A stream from below
Wild Mare, listen
Don't fight it, this is all you ever asked for
Have Faith, Moonchild, and from a nightmare become
An eternal dream
The War Horse bends her head, sweet surrender
Soaked in rain the man remains
Still, he waits
An open hand, holding his breath, hoping
Finally
She takes the step forward and stumbles
Looses balance and in her fall
Breaks her shell, hooves tiny feet
Golden coat into smooth skin
Still wild, still free
Her forehead in his palm
His kingdom
For a woman.
